Season 5 is off to a great start on LOST. Episode 3, entitled 'Jughead' answered some of our much pondered questions, and yet still kept us asking "what the heck is this about?" Here is my take on some of the things I noticed and some of the things I wonder about:
1. I'll start with a biggie - Mrs. Hawking! While we didn't see her as we know her, I do believe she made an appearance in this episode. Daniel Faraday meets Ellie (the blonde girl with the gun who takes him to the warhead) and mentions that she reminds him of someone! I wonder who that could be??? I say she reminds him of his mom because it is his mom - Mrs. Ellie Hawking (possibly Eloise Hawking - remember Faraday's rat named Eloise)!
2. We also find out that Mr. Charles Widmore is stationed on the island in his younger years. Hmmm, I wonder what would happen if Charles and Ellie hooked up on the island? Is it possible they made a baby - maybe Daniel Faraday - which would mean that Penny is his sister. Could this be one of the reasons Mr. Widmore has been funding his research? And who is Penny's mom??? Guess we'll have to wait to find out.
3. Baby Charlie! Desmond and Penny have a baby and name him Charlie! Congratulations to them! But is he named after Desmond's long lost island rocker friend who died at the hand of Patchy or is the young boy named after Penny's dad Charles Widmore?
4. Love the painting Mr. Widmore! But we've all seen that polar bear/namaste painting hanging in your office before, OR HAVE WE???. Just had to point it out! The first pic is from Jughead.
This one is from "Flashes Before Your Eyes"
5. Daniel confesses his love for Charlotte - ahhh how sweet. But if he loves her so much, why isn't he telling her why she's sick?
6. Latin - why is it necessary for the Others to learn Latin? Well, let's see what we know about Latin - it was orininally spoken in Ancient Rome (maybe this has something to do with the big foot statue); the popularity of speaking Latin began to decline after the 16th century; Latin is still used in the Catholic Church; and things of a scientific nature are often given Latin names
7. Juliet sure is sneaky. She knows Latin! She knows Richard! She knows Richard has been on the island for a very long time. I think she has more than just a clue about what's going on. But, she hasn't been there that long - I wonder how much she really knows. She did choose to stay behind for a reason!
8. Who else has been looking for Daniel Faraday in Oxford? And who the heck was that random guy who followed Desmond into his workshop?
9. It all makes sense now!!! Now we know why Richard Alpert showed up at Locke's birth. Locke tells Richard his birthdate and Richard follows him around throughout life. We even saw Locke leave his compass behind before the flash, which is later presented to Locke in the foster home by Richard when Locke was just a lil' Locke (yet Locke chooses the knife over all the other items because the event hasn't happened yet).
10. This would suck - Desmond goes to see Faraday's experiment gone wrong - a woman named Theresa Spencer = anagram "Each Represents" (thanks Jopinionated for that great catch) is lying there in bed stuck in her head. Now I know the writers are way toooooo creative, but what if everything on LOST was just Daniel's experiment gone wrong and LOST was just a story inside of that poor woman's head. Geez that would suck!
11. Miles has super powers - So did he get them from being Pierre Chang's kid and growing up on this crazy island or what? He can clearly hear dead people, Daniel knows all about it, and isn't at all surprised.
12. Why Jughead - who names a warhead Jughead anyway? The obvious thought is that Jughead comes from the Archie Comics. Well, let's look at a few possibilities: From the Archie Comics, Jughead's First name was Forsythe which actually means 'fear' 'peace.' OK, that could be a possibility. Jughead's middle name is "Pendleton," the name of a military base in CA. What else could Jughead stand for? Jughead always wore a crown and get this, "The dot and dash that adorn his hat constitute the Morse code symbol for the letter A." Interesting!!! Wait there's more - Jughead's Time Police was a series that began in 1990 featuring Jughead as a hero of the 29th century and a member of the Time Police, an organization that ensures history to remain the same for the future's sake. Jughead gains the ability to travel to the past and future at will. The main villain was the time-travelling sorceress Morgan le Fay.
That's about all I have. Hope you've enjoyed. Please feel free to send me your questions.
