LOST's season 5 premiere was undoubtedly amazing. But I have this sense that many people are scratching their heads and wondering, "huh?" I've already received phone calls, texts and IMs saying, "who was that?" and "why did so and so do that?" So, lets take a look at some questions you might have, dissect them a little and make our own predictions. I promise that I haven't looked at any spoilers for this season yet, so what you're about to read comes straight from my own aquabatty theories and logic.
1. Who is Pierre Chang's/ Dr. Marvin Candle's baby? - My guess is Myles. I believe this for a few reasons: he's Asian, has the gift of hearing spirits, and has a calmness on the island.
2. Jin - Is he dead or did he jump? - Here's the thing, not once in either episode was Jin announced dead. However, if he did jump and survive, is he still back in season 4 time or season 5 flashing sky time? My prediction: Jin survived, but is stuck in the middle.
3. Is Locke dead? - I say no. I actually believe a few different things. I'm kinda leaning towards Locke being Jacob. However, he may just be dead enough to be brought back to life on the island.
4. The whispers - OK follow me here - I believe that the whispers on the island are alive people that are on the island at another time (but also in that same time- sort of) in the exact spot where they're heard. Kind of like a different dimension type of thing. So like when Juliet heard the whispers before seeing Harper in season 4, it was like something else was going on in that exact spot where Juliet was standing, but because it was in a different time, Juliet couldn't see them, just hear them.
5. Ben knows who everyone is - Ben knows who everyone is because he's seen it all before. He has relived this time and time again. It's just like Locke knowing who Ethan is. Ethan had know idea who Locke was because in Ethan's history they had never met, but in Locke's history they did. If Locke would have actually sat and had a conversation with Ethan prior to Charlie shooting him, Locke could have said, "Ethan don't shoot me in the leg. I know who you are. Your name is Ethan. Your dad is so and so. Your birthday is such and such." Ben does that with everyone. Your name is this. You do that. Your birthday is such and such....
6. The rules - Ok so we know that life is like a piece of string - huh? No, but really they move forward and backward but can't change anything. They all have an ultimate destiny - which is why Michael couldn't kill himself. We also know that there are RULES! We can't go back and kill Hitler. However, Keamy did kill Ben's daughter Alex and "changed the rules" and Ben is dumbfounded. So, what does it all mean? I haven't the foggiest. I think it means, kinda like the movie Final Destination, you can't do anything to change the future because it will ultimately catch up with you. Which brings me to my next thought...
7. Charlotte - Her nose was bleeding. I believe she was getting the "sickness" that Frenchie Rousseau kept blabbering about way back when. These are my thoughts - The island jumped into the future at one point and I believe that's when Charlotte's nose started bleeding. If life is a string that has an end point, but somehow you jump past that end point, your body will need to catch up. I think that's what happened. I think the island jumped into the future, passing Charlotte's point of death, causing her nose to bleed and brain to become scrambled. Thus, in order to course correct, she'll have to die. On a small side note, I believe Charlotte is Ben's childhood friend, Annie.
8. Kate's paternity test - I believe Sun ordered it. I believe Sun is now evil and resents Kate for killing Jin and saving her own ass. Let's remember a few things about Sun - 1) she is her father's daughter, 2) she cheated on Jin, 3) she killed Colleen on Desmond's sailboat. But before she pulled the trigger Colleen said something like, "you are not the enemy, but if you kill me that is what you'll become." PLUS, it just so happens that those guys come to Kate's door asking for the blood sample and then minutes later Kate gets a call from Sun saying she's in town. Sun - wearing red (evil/also death color). Her conversation/questioning sounds very manipulative. When asking Kate who came to the house and hearing Kate's answer - Sun doesn't even sound surprised? Sun is so resentful that Kate stuck baby Aaron in Sun's arms on the freighter and said she would get Jin and never did, that I believe Sun has it out for Kate. Plus, Sun throws in that little dig at the end, "So, how's Jack?" Like, how's your love life, since I don't have one.
9. Hurley's mom - I love her. Just had to say that.
10. Hurley - I love him too. If you have know idea what LOST is about just listen to what he tells his mom. His one minute explanation pretty much sums up what LOST is about.
11. Why shoot Sayid with darts? - Why not kill Sayid? Did they know he couldn't die because it wasn't his time?
12. Mrs. Hawking - First let me say I believe she is Dan Faraday's mom who Desmond has to meet in Oxford. Now let me remind you that she is the lady behind the counter where Desmond goes to buy the engagement ring for Penny way back when. After she gives him a ring, then she asks for it back, Desmond won't return it. Then she tells him she knows him, what he needs to do, and what will happen in the future. She is the one who tells Desmond to go to the island and push the button and turn the failsafe key. She also explains about how the universe has a way of course correcting itself (like the movie Final Destination). Now here's my question - Did SHE go back in time to tell Desmond what he had to do in the future? I say probably so. By the way - if you check out her chalk board take a look at the upper right side and you'll see a picture of what looks like the island. AND, is she in an off island hatch? Geez, I wish I took a Physics class.
13. Original Blue Van/Original Orchid Station - It looks as if it was built in the 1970's. I'm guessing by wardrobe, camera equipment, plus we have Willie Nelson's, Shotgun Willie 1973 record skipping on the record player, just like the island eventually does, and just like Faraday explains.- So what exactly was on the island before?
14. Richard Alpert - Besides that fact that he's found the way to eternal youth - he says a few very important things while taking out Locke's bullet- 1. in reference to "gotta get the bullet out" he says, "YOU will tell me" about the bullet- which I believe means, it's happened before or in the future he told Alpert that he was shot in the leg by Ethan, 2. When Locke asks "when am I," he answers, "that's all relative" meaning time is a relative thing, 3. When Locke asks when the sky lit up where Alpert went, he replies, "I didn't go anywhere, you went." This brings me back to my whispers theory, in which I believe one can stand in the same place, while another travels to that same place through history (both standing in the same place and different times, in the same moment - because TIME IS RELATIVE). However, I wonder, if the island is moving and taking Locke with it, why isn't Alpert going with it (according to him)?
15. Arrow attacks - I'm guessing waaaaay back when. Who the heck uses arrows over guns? I'm guessing they used arrows because it wasn't modern times. Actually, through my research I came across a group of men called the English Archers during the 14th and 15th centuries. Remember the accents! So, while that would be a super long jump backwards, who knows on LOST. I mean the Black Rock ship was from 1845 and came from England, so who knows.
16. Adam & Eve - These were the names of the skeletons that Locke found in a cave in season 1. I'm bringing them up because I'm wondering if anyone has already seen their own skeletons. I'm going out on a limb here and saying they're either Kate and Sawyer or Desmond and Penny. Guess we'll have to wait ad see.
17. Ana Lucia and Libby - Maybe Hurley is special and not schizophrenic. Maybe he has the ability to see people in time. Since "time is relative" does that mean death is relative too? If death is relative too, especially if you die on the island, then Hurley isn't seeing dead people, he's seeing people relative to his lifetime.
18. Claire - We never saw her die, but we did see her hanging out with her dead father in Jacob's cabin. We also saw her visit Kate. Is she aware that the island is doing the time warp?
19. Juliet's hand - I'm thinking about the men in uniforms who grab Juliet by the hair and immediately wants to chop off her hand. Could these guys possibly be the link to how Dr. Marvin Candle eventually loses his hand?
20. Locke's constant - Must be Richard Alpert or the compass. Remember way back when Richard Alpert visited little Locke and presented several items to him (a baseball glove, book of laws, comic book, sand, knife, and a compass) then asked him to pick the one that was his. Unfortunately for Locke he chose wrong and picked the knife. But now we know he should have picked the compass. By the way, if you remember back to that episode I belive there was a child-like drawing of a smoke monster hung up on the wall. I guess Locke had already met Mr. Smokey at some time. We know Locke wasn't born on the island because we saw his birth, so how would he already know what is his in the future and elements of the island? hmmmmm
